Artist Text
James Moore's paintings are fundamentally inspired by landscapes. Dramatic skies, open spaces and distant horizons are painted in a subtle way that plays with beauty of the genre. James' works repeatedly pick up on cues from artificial environments, such as the landscape from a video game, a film backdrop or a theme park, and these starting points are used to launch into a meticulously constructed painting.

Other works represent places that James has ridden through during long distance cycling trips. They seek out an emotional, memory laden connection to landscape and often focus on 'man-made' incursions into these places. Layers of paint and smooth applications of colour create sensual painted objects that sometimes veer towards photorealism or computer rendering, and at other times expose the qualities of the material and processes.
